Root Canal Treatments

When the nerve or pulp in a tooth becomes inflamed infected or dies due to such things as dental caries, trauma or having had a deep filing done previously due to the extent of an old carious lesion, our dentists have the expertise to perform root canal treatment if it is possible to save the tooth.

This initially involves removing the inflamed or necrotic nerve from the root canal system and relieving the patient of any pain associated with the tooth by placing antibiotics inside. Following this, the spaces or canals are cleaned thoroughly using highly specialised rotary instruments and disinfectants followed by a permanent root canal filling to seal off the canal from further bacterial ingress. The tooth is then restored with a crown or full coverage filling to give it structural integrity.
